Dan Kaine to speak at Protect Duty Round Table in Manchester

On February 9th, Managing Partner and Director of Special Risks, Dan Kaine will be speaking at a Round Table in Manchester attended by property management executives, business liability insurers, law enforcement and legal representatives.

The focus of the Round Table will be how organisations can proactively prepare now to ensure they are compliant with the upcoming Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill, also known as Martyn's Law, designed to improve the protection of publicly accessible places from terrorist attacks.

On November 7th, 2023, King Charles III gave his first King’s Speech, which marks the official state opening of Parliament for the year ahead in the United Kingdom.

King Charles III directly referenced the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill in the speech. Though policies included in the reading are not guaranteed to become legislation, this does provide an important indication that the Bill will go forwards and be introduced to parliament, which begins the main stage of the legislative process – a reading in the House of Commons.

The legislation is intended to ensure that businesses and organisations are better prepared to deal with – and respond to – serious incidents.

Martyn's Law will improve protective security and organisational preparedness across the UK by mandating, for the first time, those responsible for certain premises and events to consider the terrorist risk and how they would respond to an attack.

Inherent Risks are working in particular with hotel clients' with properties abroad frequented by tourists and business travellers from the UK, to provide peace of mind to visitors that they are Protect Duty compliant.
